This song was a major hit for Tyrone Davis. The original has a lush melody perfectly suited to Davis voice over a bouncy early southern soul groove that is somewhat marred by cluttered, sloppy musicianship. In Buchanan’s hands, the band is incredibly tight, with the signature riff played with authority, providing an irresistible dance beat. The mix is perfect, with the bass and drums supporting the vocal to perfection. If Buchanan had backed Davis, it would have gone down as one of the best soul blues songs in history.
