Magic Mirror Review by Matthew Greenwald

Another classic from his excellent 1972 album, Carney, Leon Russell's "Magic Mirror" is another one of his powerful and effective self-examinations as a musician and entertainer. A lonely, blues-filled melody is marked with a sense of both beauty and darkness, and in this way it is not dissimilar to Steve Winwood's moody classic "Can't Find My Way Home." There is also a sense of being displaced by society, and at the height of the Vietnam War and the cultural youth revolution of the late '60s, this was more than appropriate for Russell's audience.
